World Blood Donor Day – 14 June 2026

One Donation Can Save Up to 3 Lives. Will You Be a Hero?

On 14 June, we honour the millions of selfless blood donors who give others a second chance at life. World Blood Blood Donor Day reminds us that blood donation is an act of community, responsibility, and love.

Why Blood Donation Matters:

  • South Africa faces chronic blood shortages
  • One donation can save up to 3 lives
  • Young, healthy adults (18–65, 50kg+) are the most reliable donors
  • Blood donation introduces young people to preventive health
  • Children with sickle cell disease, cancer patients, trauma victims—all depend on blood

As Healthcare Practitioners, We Lead by Example:

At SAMDP, we lead by example and calling on all medical and dental professionals to:

  • Donate blood this World Blood Donor Day
  • Organise blood drives at your practice or clinic
  • Encourage your patients and students to donate
  • Register as repeat donors, not just one-time givers

Requirements to Donate:

  • Age 18–65 years
  • Weigh at least 50kg
  • Feel well and healthy
  • No active infections
