Second HPV Dose Now Due

5 August – 13 September

As we mark Child Health Month under the theme “Healthy Children, Bright Futures,” SAMDP reminds parents, schools, and healthcare professionals that the second round of the HPV vaccination campaign is now underway.

If your daughter received her first HPV dose in March 2025, she is now due for her second dose between 5 August and 13 September 2025.

Why is the second dose important?

There are a number of reasons why the second HPV dose is important:

  • Two doses are required for full protection
  • Prevents up to 90% of cervical cancers
  • Most effective when given before adolescence
  • The HPV vaccine is safe, effective, and a powerful way to protect young girls from a preventable cancer. Yet protection is only complete after both doses are received.

It is offered FREE at public schools and clinics across South Africa

HPV: Let’s Not Stop Halfway

  • Parents: Make sure your daughter receives her second dose at school or your nearest clinic between 5 August and 13 September.
  • Schools: Support the Department of Health’s teams during this round by ensuring learners are present and aware.
  • Healthcare Workers: Encourage completion of the HPV schedule during child health visits and outreach efforts.

This Child Health Month, let’s ensure our daughters are fully protected.
Two doses. One decision. Lifelong protection.
