The South African Medical and Dental Practitioners (SAMDP) stands at a pivotal moment in its history. On 8-9 March 2025, our leadership team and key stakeholders gathered to shape the future of our organisation at the SAMDP Strategy Session. Under the theme “From Vision to Action: Repositioning SAMDP for Growth, Influence, and Impact”, this session was not just a reflection on where we have been, but a bold step toward where we are headed.
A New Era for SAMDP
For decades, SAMDP has been a respected voice for medical and dental practitioners in South Africa. However, the healthcare landscape is evolving rapidly, and our organisation must evolve with it. The time has come to redefine our purpose, strengthen our impact, and ensure that SAMDP remains at the forefront of healthcare advocacy, professional development, and policy influence.
The strategy session reinforced a powerful message that we must move beyond aspirations and take decisive action. To thrive in this new era, SAMDP will focus on five strategic priorities:
- Membership Growth: Strengthening recruitment, retention, and engagement to expand our community of medical and dental professionals.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Building strategic partnerships with key players in the healthcare ecosystem, including government, medical aids, and industry bodies.
- Financial Sustainability: Developing new revenue streams to ensure SAMDP’s long-term viability and capacity to serve its members effectively.
- Advocacy & Policy Influence: Strengthening our voice in healthcare policy discussions, ensuring that the interests of private practitioners are represented at the highest levels.
- Digital Transformation: Leveraging technology to enhance service delivery, streamline operations, and improve member engagement.

Our vision is clear, SAMDP must be more than an association, it must be a movement that champions the interests of Medical and Dental practitioners and strengthens their professions in South Africa. Furthermore, we recognise that past misconceptions have, at times, overshadowed our true mission. We want to assure our members and those wishing to join our organisation that these issues have been confronted, addressed, and resolved. Extensive communication has been undertaken to rebuild trust and restore SAMDP’s reputation, credibility, and stature. The past is behind us, our focus now is on taking SAMDP to greater lengths, driving positive change, and delivering real value to our members.
